Smart home hub Homey or Wink Hub 2

Customers received a notification that all their carefully designed home automations would be inaccessible unless they signed on for a $4.99-per-month subscription plan. The voice-control capabilities on both the Wink 1st generation and 2nd generation adds an nice feature to the overall usability and hands-free nature of this device. The size of the Wink smart home hub is about twice the size of the comparableSamsung SmartThings hub(we’ve included a visual comparison below). The speakers produce sound that, while audible, is more than a little anemic.

Wink also works well on Apple watches and Android wearables, giving you the flexibility to control your appliances from your wrist. There are large-sized icons, which make navigating through the options pretty easy. The temperature reports are very precise, the IFTTT works well and the display live feed is very clear. A similarity between the Wink Hub and Wink Hub 2 lies in their design. From a glance, it might seem like they have an identical appearance.

The downside: limited to one smart home protocol

While the Wink 2 does have wifi, it also has a wired ethernet connection. In my opinion, if you’re able towire smart home devices, it’s always best . The setup process got better with automatic discovery of the hub followed by a guided interface. The “Local Control”, the way they call it, got enhanced. Where the Hub 1 can only do basic stuff like switching devices on/off without internet, Hub 2 can, in addition, control home automation robots and schedules.

The easiest way to determine whether you’re going about this installation process correctly is to check the color of the LED light on your smart hub. In the initial setup and when you’re trying to connect to your home network, the hub will display an amber light. But once it’s fully configured, the light should turn to blue. When deciding between Wink and SmartThings for your smart home hub, SmartThings stands out in several areas, including a highly-rated app and battery backup.

Comparison: Wink Hub vs Wink Hub 2

It is simply that when there is no internet connection, the hub will communicate directly with the devices instead of going through the cloud. Alexa voice commands were also executed instantly, as was my IFTTT recipe to have the smart plug turn on at the start of a NY Jets game. The door-window sensors were very responsive, as was the motion sensor and smart plug. Every installed device reacted instantly to my commands using the Wink app, and the Robot automations worked like a charm. My Lights Out Robot, which had the Cree light bulb turn off when I left the premises, worked without a hitch. So did my Camera Robot that had the Nest Cam turn on when a door sensor was triggered.

The free Android and iOS Wink app is well organized and offers detailed instructions to help you pair components and monitor your connected devices. Its use of large icons makes it a bit more user-friendly than the SmartThings app. The home screen displays icons of product categories such as Thermostats, Sensors, Cameras, and Lights + Power. Tapping any category icon takes you to a screen with icons for each installed device in that category.

When you sign up for a free account, you can enable your apps and devices to work together. The number of online platforms is increasing rapidly around the world, and the range of products is also expanding. More and more companies are offering their products online as online platforms become increasingly popular. Smart home technology isn’t just about asking Alexa to turn on the TV and cranking up the audio when the latest blockbuster is released. As mentioned above, SmartThings v3 connects using Zigbee and z-wave. While it’s possible to use 3rd parties to work with Wi-Fi, it’s a disappointment that it’s not integrated as the main feature. Not to mention, when the power does return, everything will need to reboot and hopefully reconnect to all devices without issue. On the other hand, the Smart Thing is shaped more like a white Roku or Android Box. It’s no bigger than your Wi-Fi router and is just as discrete. There is no noticeable power glow when it’s on, unlike the blue light on the Wink. To make a choice easier, we’ll lay out their differences and similarities in nine key areas. For those upgrading their Wink Hubs, the transition is even smoother. Per the manufacturer, you can make these transfers with your app in less than a minute.

Supported Devices

Perhaps the most notable feature where the Wink hub really proves its value is in the automation and synchronization of multiple smart devices. What if you’re the smart home junkie, housing 5, 10, 20, 50, or even more smart home devices within your four walls. For high level smart home users, the value of the Wink hub increases exponentially.

You can configure your ecobee3 thermostat to change to Home setting and your outdoor lights to switch on whenever the app detects that you’ve arrived home. Neither SmartThings nor Wink are perfect as the brain of a smart home. The main problem is their application compatibility – people get connection problems from time to time when they try to connect the hub or add other devices. Depressingly, some connected devices suddenly become disconnected after the firmware is updated, which really turns each update into a gamble. Internally, it doesn’t sound like the Wink Hub is changing a lot. There’s also a security chip, to make sure the hub’s software isn’t tampered with.

But that shouldn’t even be a problem as your Smart Hub needs to be within 2 meters of your Wi-Fi. Both Wink and SmartThings get full marks for sleek design, barely distinguishable from other smart home devices, and small enough to conceal if required. You can also program in-house robots that allow your device to talk to each other much like IFTTT. You can even create shortcuts to control multiple appliances in a single swipe, useful for switching everything off when you leave the house.

google home hub vs wink hub 2

For example, I created a robot that turns on theNest Cam when a door sensor is triggered. I also created a robot that turns off a specific light when I leave home. This particular robot uses geofencing to determine my location before turning off the light. You can have robots run all the time, or you can schedule start and end times for specific days of the week.

Care home operators are advised to undertake an assessment to determine whether the use of CCTV is justified, taking into account the benefits of filming in the care home against any disadvantages, including the impact on residents’ dignity. The Mental Capacity Act and the MCA Code of Practice will be important in such situations. Controllers will typically seek to avoid reliance on consent for GDPR purposes and thus will need to identify at least one appropriate ground in Article 6 and Article 9. Where a decision has been made to use surveillance, the relevant consideration should be carefully documented as it is a matter that may be subject to scrutiny in the context of a CQC inspection. The CQC has recognised that the use of CCTV cameras may be the best way to ensure safety or quality of care but highlights the need to consider whether less intrusive steps can be taken by providers to ensure the same aims are achieved.

data protection act in care homes

As with the previous data protection legislation, residents have a qualified right of access under the GDPR to their own personal data and this will include access to recordings of them made by the CCTV. BLS has extensive experience in the health and social care sector, working with large NHS trusts, to GP Federations, right through to rural sole-trader holistic services and independent care homes and support facilities. Every reasonable step must be taken to ensure that personal data that is inaccurate, having regard to the purposes for which they are processed, is erased or rectified without delay. There is an express requirement under the GDPR that personal data is to be processed for only as long as its purpose requires it to be. The care home operator will therefore need to consider for what period footage should be stored by the home and any policy on CCTV should reflect this.

I’m in the process of moving out so I go to get said paint and they look at me like I’m crazy for asking. They only provide “touch up paint” and that I need to go buy primer so that I can prime the wall for them so they can paint it after I’m gone. Literally did not show ANY UNDERSTANDING for someone who has literally been here LONGER THAN THEM. That’s only just today. You will pay a fortune and you will regret it.
